Tell Bob Costas we don’t need his opinions on gun control or anything else for that matter. He gets paid to read the tele-prompter. He should stick to reading what others want him to say.

Hey Bob Costas – O J used a knife, what da ya think about that?

    • azhunter2012 - Dec 5, 2012 at 5:39 PM

I was very disappointed in the comments that Bob Costas made regarding this incident. The complete story had not been reported but yet Bob hopped on his soap box to report his thoughts. I always held Bob up as a reporter that did it the right way. Come to find out, he has tumbled down the steps of the media platform just like so many of the men and women before him.

As it relates to his conclusion about “what he knows”. If he did not have a gun, his acts of rage would have probably pushed him into finding another way to release his anger. This possibly would have been his fist, which he punched through glass in college in Maine, or some other object, which we cannot outlaw everything- could have been a pillow… The man had mental issues and reacted due to these issues. I would think that a person could respond to Bob by stating that “one thing they do know is that if his girlfriend would have HAD a gun, she would have stopped the violence and the 3 month old daugher would still have a mother to raise and love her.

I am not looking for Bob to be fired or reprimanded, these types of comments are part of life. I just ask for him to reflect on his comments and think through the situation before he gets in front of an international audience and voices his opinions as facts. America does not need the media to push to take away freedoms that the Country was founded on, rather they need a voice to continue to provide us the freedom to voice and exercise these freedoms. The freedoms such as “freedom of speech” in which they enjoy.

Thanks for your thoughts on my post.

When I watch Sunday night football, the last thing I want to hear is some liberal talking about trashing the constitution because someone killed their girlfriend and themselves. Taking away people’s right to own a handgun will absolutely NOT save lives and I sure don’t expect to hear that while watching a football game. I am extremely disappointed that NBC would allow this during a football game. Did you hear about the guy that killed 3 people with a cross bow or what about box cutters? What about poison and jumping off bridges. Let’s ban all sharp edges while we’re at it. Wait I know some people that can kill someone with a ball point pen. I’ve even heard of people being strangled to death during domestic violence. Costas should have never said that those two would still be alive if hand guns were illegal. He doesn’t know that and should keep his opinions away from football. I am really disgusted with NBC. Guns kill people the same way a microphone made Costas a fool so let’s ban all microphones.

I agree with both above comments. NBC should be ashamed that Bob Costas did this. Bob Costas was WAY out of line preaching his political, anti-gun ‘blah…blah…blah’!!!! I wanted to watch a football game! After all, isn’t that what SNF is about???? FOOTBALL????? Not some gun control bull crap!!!!! It is tragic anytime someone commits murder/suicide! I feel terrible for the survivors! But to rant about gun control during a football game’s half time show???? REALLY???? I will be writing a letter to NBC!!!! I am disgusted!!!! I am also a responsible gun owner and damn proud of it! It is my AMERICAN right to own guns! I don’t need some moron like Bob Costas preaching to me about how guns kill! Uh…no…the person pulling the trigger kills! Just like a drunk driver. The alcohol didn’t drive the car! The person drinking did! It’s called responsibility for self!!!! I love the above comment, ‘Guns kill people the same way a microphone made Costas a fool so let’s ban all microphones’! That’s AWESOME!!!!

I have to agree with the previous comments regarding Mr. Costas’ comments. I was relieved that the election season came to an end and thought we as Americans could begin to move forward, united, to once again improve our country.

Campaigning for a personal political agenda during the broadcast of a sporting event is ridiculous. This should not be tolerated in this venue. If Mr. Costas would like to have an informed debate, I would gladly participate, or refer him to someone who may enlighten him and the millions of Americans that he addressed last night.

Bob Costas went over the line during his commentary. Maybe he should have considered the brain damage that Mr. Beltcher may have been suffering. A lifetime of having your head banged around probably has more to do with this situation than owning a gun. Bob would have been more accurate in blaming college and pro football for these deaths and probably many others.
He should have tried to ban the game of football from being shown on television, that would have made more sense and angered less law abiding citizens.
In my opinion, Bob showed his ignorance by blaming the gun rather than the game.

  6. obanrocks - Dec 3, 2012 at 2:25 PM

I’m calling for a boycott of your content and products.

Sports needs to transcend political agendas. I’m offended that Bob Costas felt it necessary to voice his personal opinion regarding the right to bear arms.

  7. beavis64 - Dec 3, 2012 at 2:27 PM

Bob Costas needs to be at least fined, suspended or both. I tune in to SNF for one thing (like all other Americans) to watch football, take your political rants over to MSNBC where no one will hear them and leave the politics out of our sports!! I would love to hear NBC’s explanation of how this went down, if they knew ahead of time then they should not be so cowardly to ignore the response he caused and address the issue. If they didn’t know then Costas should be fired immediately, not only were his comments biased and unwarranted but now he has stirred up a political fire that this country does not need now. I agree with the above replies…we are sick of politics (especially just after this election), we are sick of hearing about how politicians cannot work out even the simplest problems, sick of hearing about how bad of shape this country is in…we sure didn’t need Costas making matters worse!! Either put him on MSNBC or make him stick to sports at nationally televised sporting events!!

  8. mmathisen - Dec 3, 2012 at 3:27 PM

i listened to Bob Costas at half time on Sunday Night Football last night.
His long rant about how we need to get rid of hand guns because of what happened with K.C. Chiefs’ Jovan Belcher killing his girlfriend & self.
I think the nation should turn off anything that has to do or affiliated with Bob Costas!!!!
He is an ASS. What if Jovan ran her over with a car and then ran the car into a brick wall? Would we need to ban cars then? NBC, how could you allow him to even do this?
Until he is removed from NBC i will not watch one program!!

  9. ea4200 - Dec 4, 2012 at 2:32 AM

Costas is a sanctimonious d-bag. And there was a time when I considered him one of the best. It will be interesting to see how long NBC sticks with such a washed up hack who alienates over half their viewers.

  10. lmgtexasmichael - Dec 4, 2012 at 12:24 PM

Costas is such a hypocrite. Divorced, college drop out, never played any sports, and making massive money doing a poor job broadcasting sporting events. That’s bad enough but do we also have to listen to his incredibly inane rants regarding topics he knows even less about! Write off Costas, and write me off from ever again watching any sporting event that clown broadcasts.
