STEELERS (6-5) AT RAVENS (9-2)
By Football Night in America’s Eliott Kalb
- This Sunday’s game will be the second time in just 14 days that these two teams are meeting. The Ravens beat the Steelers, 13-10, at Heinz Field on Nov. 18.
- Ray Rice was held to 40 yards on 20 carries in that first meeting.
- Pittsburgh will be trying to break a recent trend of struggling in Baltimore, as they are 2-5 when facing the Ravens away from Heinz Field since 2005
- Pittsburgh held its eighth opponent this season (sixth straight) to 20 points or less. For the sixth game in a row and the eighth time this season the Steelers did not allow their opponent to register at least 170 net passing yards. Pittsburgh is 6-2 in those contests.
- The past two games the Steelers put up these awesome numbers:
28 total drives
14 ended in a punt
11 ended in turnovers
- If Pittsburgh wins, will improve to 62-30 under Mike Tomlin during the regular season, including 27-20 on the road.
- The Steelers are 8-7, including 4-5 under Head Coach Mike Tomlin, when Roethlisberger does not play.
- Baltimore, winners of four in a row, has a three-game lead over both the Steelers and the Bengals
- Since Nov. 4 (after returning from their bye week), the Ravens have allowed an NFL-low 14.5 points per game, producing a 4-0 mark in those contests. Baltimore has permitted just 4 TDs during this span
- 9 Passing TDs permitted by the Ravens this season, ranking as the NFL’s fewest (Seattle is next with 10).
- 15 Consecutive games the Ravens have won at M&T Bank Stadium (including 23 of their last 24) – ranking as the NFL’s longest activehome winning streak (Atlanta is next with 9-straight home victories). Last loss at M&T: December 5, 2010. The opponent: the Steelers, of course.
- 12 Consecutive games the Ravens have won in AFC North play, tying Indianapolis (2004-06) for the most since 2002 division realignment.
- Overpowering offensive tackles, the Ravens Paul Kruger has generated four sacks over the past three games heading into Sunday’s AFC North showdown with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Following a slow start to the season, Kruger has emerged as the Ravens’ top pass rusher while being utilized primarily as a situational player on third downs.
- With Rashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman both out against Cincinnati on Oct. 21, Jonathan Dwyer got the start and rattled off 122 yards on 17 carries. He followed that with a 107 yard performance against the Washington Redskins, but a quad injury sidelined him against the Giants the following week. Dwyer has led the team in rushing in each of the last three games in a backup role, and this week, his hard work has paid off as he was named the team’s starter.
The Steelers haven’t had two takeaways in a game since Oct. 7 against the Eagles.
