VIKINGS (6-4) AT BEARS (7-3)
By Football Night in America’s Eliott Kalb
- The Bears have won each of the last five meetings between these teams, one shy of their longest run in the series, set from 1983-86. The Vikings’ last win over the Bears came in Week 12 of the 2009 season.
- The Bears have also won four in a row and 10 of the last 11 vs. the Vikings at home. Minnesoa’s last win in Chicago came in the 2007 season.
- The Vikings are coming off their bye week. Before the bye, they defeated the Lions 34-24 in Week 10, snapping a two-game losing streak.
- The Bears have lost consecutive games to the Texans and 49ers, scoring a total of 13 points in those games. The offensive struggles coincide with the loss of Jay Cutler, who suffered a concussion in the loss to the Texans in Week 10. Cutler was limited in practice on Thursday and is still questionable for Sunday’s game.
- In six quarters replacing Cutler, Jason Campbell is 25-for-41 for only 201 yards, throwing one touchdown and two interceptions.
- If Cutler can’t play, look for the Vikings to overplay the run. With Matt Forte held to just three yards per rush (21 rush, 63 yards) on Monday, the 49ers forced the backup Campbell to make plays.
- Adrian Peterson continues his remarkable recovery from a knee injury, running for a total of 629 yards in his last four games. He has a 60+ yard run in each of the last three games, matching an NFL record.
- While in Chicago, Peterson plans to get in touch with Bulls star Derrick Rose, who is recovering from his own ACL surgery. “I just got his contact (information) this weekend, just to talk to him a little bit and see how things are going with him and to answer any questions he has for me,” Peterson said.
- Percy Harvin (ankle) is doubtful for this week’s game. Because of the bye, he still has not played in a game since November 4.
- With Harvin out, rookie Jarius Wright starred in his NFL debut, with three catches for 65 yards and a touchdown.
- The Bears’ offensive line was humiliated last Monday, with six sacks allowed, including five-and-a-half by Aldon Smith. They’ve now allowed 34 sacks this season.
- As a result, the team demoted left guard Chilo Rachal—who subsequently left the team on Wednesday—in favor of Chris Spencer. The next move was to bench right tackle Gabe Carimi. Veteran Jonathan Scott will start in his place.
- That line will be challenged by the Vikings’ talented edge rushers: Jared Allen, Brian Robison and Everson Griffen. Allen has 13 sacks in eight career games vs. the Bears.
- A win this week would give the Vikings seven wins for the first time since the 2009 season, when they went 12-4.
- The Vikings are just 1-3 on the road this season. Four of their next five games are away from Minnesota, with matchups also in Green Bay, St. Louis and Houston.
- Chicago Bears Offensive Coordinator Mike Tice spent 12 years with the Vikings organization as a player and coach. Tice served as the Vikings head coach for the final game in 2001 and from 2002-05.
- Vikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier (1981-86) and Special Assistant to the Head Coach/LB Coach Mike Singletary (1981-92) both played for the Bears and helped bring Chicago their only Super Bowl title in 1985.
