TEXANS (7-1) AT BEARS (7-1)

By Football Night in America’s Eliott Kalb
  • This is only the third time in the last 20 years that teams with one or fewer losses have squared off against one another after Week 8.
  • Houston hasn’t allowed a rushing touchdown in 11 games, dating back to 2011. (Texans only allowing 82 yards per game on the ground, second best in NFL).
  • Houston has turned the ball over only six times all year (lowest in NFL)…but look who they’re playing!
  • The Texans are second in the NFL in scoring.  The Texans also rank first in time of possession (35:13) after ranking first in 2011 (32:41). They’re sixth in third-down percentage (44.35%).
  • Chicago has forced a league-high 28 takeaways and has returned seven interceptions for scores. The Bears also boast the NFL’s top red zone defense, allowing opponents only seven touchdowns in 19 trips inside their 20.
  • The Bears are third in the NFL in points per game (29.5) behind the Patriots (32.8) and Texans (29.6). But they’re 13th in points scored by the offense (22.6). They’re 25th in total yards.
  • The Chicago defense is second in points allowed (13.0) behind the 49ers (12.0). But they’ve also scored seven touchdowns that have produced 48 points for a net of 56 points allowed, 7.0 per game. That’s unheard of in the NFL.
  • Houston can tie a franchise record by winning their fourth consecutive road game.
  • Arian Foster can extend his team record by scoring a touchdown in his 11th consecutive regular-season game. Including the playoffs, Foster has scored in 12 straight games.
  • J.J. Watt leads the NFL with 10 1/2 sacks, 10 passes defended, and he’s recovered two fumbles.
  • Charles Tillman leads the NFL with seven forced fumbles, he’s returned both of his interceptions for touchdowns, and he’s defended six other passes.
  • After hosting the Texans, the Bears will play their second straight prime-time game against a first-place team when they travel to San Francisco to battle the 49ers on Monday Night Football.
  • Both teams have only one loss.  And its to the same team!  The Packers beat the Bears by beating up quarterback Jay Cutler. And they beat the Texans behind quarterback Aaron Rodgers
  • The Texans’ defense leads the NFL in third-down efficiency at 26.47 percent. Heading into this week, Cutler is the 10th-best passer on third down, converting 61.3 percent of his passes with a 91.1 passer rating.
  • As the Bears prepare for a key game against the 7-1 Houston Texans, Charles Tillman finds himself — against his will — at the center of a debate. Tillman told The Score Tuesday night that he would miss Sunday’s game at Soldier Field if his wife goes into labor with their fourth child. He directly dodged those questions after practice Wednesday. But Tillman wrote on his Twitter account Thursday morning his priorities.”God, family, football,” Tillman said in a tweet. “Baby is coming Monday. Don’t worry, I’ll be there Sunday.”
