RAIDERS (2-4) AT CHIEFS (1-5)

By Football Night in America’s Eliott Kalb

  • The Silver and Black has won five straight games at Kansas City dating back to the 2007 season, marking the longest road winning streak in the all-time series for the Raiders.
  • Kansas City Chiefs have not beat the Oakland Raiders in Kansas City since November 19, 2006. That will have been 2,170 days on Sunday since the Chiefs have beat their biggest rival at Arrowhead stadium.
  • These teams meet again in Oakland on December 16.
  • Carson Palmer has passed for at least 200 yards in 12 straight games, a Raiders franchise record. Hard to believe that of all the great Raiders quarterbacks—Lamonica, Stabler, etc…none ever had 12 straight games of 200+ yards.
  • Kansas City named Brady Quinn, a reserve at Denver last season when Allen was defensive coordinator, as the starting quarterback Sunday against the Raiders. He replaces Matt Cassel, who missed a pre-bye loss to Washington but was healthy enough to play.
  • One of the more intriguing aspects to this upward trend in Quinn’s career is that it’s happening while he’s reunited with Crennel, who coached the Browns when Quinn was drafted. The futures of both men may again be tied together; it’s quite possible that one won’t succeed unless the other does
  • The opposition has thrown 220 passes against the Raiders this fall, but Oakland has only intercepted three of them.
  • Darren McFadden was held to 53 yards on 19 carries against the Jaguars, the fifth time in six games that he has averaged less than 3 yards a carry. In fact, take away a 64-yard touchdown run against Pittsburgh in Week 3 and he is averaging 2.5 yards a carry on his other 102 attempts.A year ago at this point, McFadden was averaging 5.5 and leading the NFL with 610 yards rushing. It was in the seventh game that he sprained his foot and then missed the rest of the season.
  • Chiefs CB Stanford Routt played seven years in Oakland (2005-11).
  • Peyton Hillis, who suffered a high ankle sprain in last month’s game against New Orleans, returned to practice this week.
  • Though the Chiefs are 1-5, they haven’t suffered running the ball without Hillis. They are third in the league in rushing and among individuals, Jamaal Charles is sixth.
  • “Jamaal is more like the Ferrari,” Hillis said. “I’m more like the 1972 El Camino. Jamaal is a great back. Everybody knows that. I’m just lucky enough to play in the same backfield.”
  • But the Chiefs are still struggling to score. They are 29th in the league in points, so they are hopeful the return of Hillis could help.
  • “It’s a tradition,” Tamba Hali told the Kansas City Star.  “The Raiders, they come in, they cheapshot, they hit you.”
  • For his career, Janikowski is 28 for 32 at Arrowhead. He actually missed two attempts in his first game there in 2000, but he made two others including a 43-yarder with 25 seconds left to deliver a 20-17 win.
  • Arrowhead also made him feel at home because of the way the fan base chanted and did a “Tomahawk Chop” much as the crowd did at Florida State.”Maybe it’s the song and singing the chop,” Janikowski said. “All I know is I really like to kick there.”
