Football Night in America’s Mr. Stats (Elliott Kalb) is the guy behind the guys.

He’s the show’s research consultant, and helps break down the numbers and facts for the likes of Tony Dungy, Rodney Harrison, Hines Ward, Peter King, Mike Florio, and now YOU!
Check out his Stat Board as we head into the 3rd Sunday of the NFL Season:

  • A record 1,556 points were scored in this season’s first two weeks.
  • This year, the rest of the league is 0-7 when committing four or more turnovers. The Eagles are 2-0.
  • Those pesky bye weeks begin next week and last through Week 11. Indianapolis and Pittsburgh are off next week.
  • ·         With a win in this game, the Rams—under new coach Jeff Fisher—will match last season’s win total.
  • ·         Another rookie is making an impression in D.C. besides RG III.  Rookie sixth-round pick Alfred Morris, out of Florida Atlantic, leads all NFL rookies with 185 rushing yards.
  • ·         The Lions and Titans meet Sunday…and their head coaches are very familiar with each other: Jim Schwartz was on the same coaching staff with Mike Munchak in Tennessee for a total of 10 years, working as the Titans’ defensive coordinator from 2001-08, and as an assistant from 1998-99.
  • ·         Since 1990, only three teams have started 0-3 and made the playoffs.  The most recent team to achieve the feat was the Bills in 1998.
  • ·         Drew Brees has thrown for 300+ yards in nine straight games, the longest streak in NFL history.  But Brees has struggled in the first two games, completing just 54.5% of his passes while throwing four interceptions.  Remember, Brees set an NFL record last season completing 71.2% of his passes.
  • ·         Randy Moss plays his first ever regular season game as a visiting player at the Metrodome.  As a member of the Raiders, he returned in ’06 in a preseason game.
  • ·         This week, Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano will face the team that he led for three-plus seasons (2008-11).  He was fired last December after the Dolphins started 4-9.
  • ·         The Bills free agent prizes – Mario Williams and Mark Anderson – are each still looking for their first sack in a Bills uniform.
  • ·         In three all-time meetings vs. Tampa Bay, Tony Romo has completed 61 of 86 passes (70.9%) for 908 yards with 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions!
  • ·         Maurice Jones-Drew has 1212 yards rushing in 12 career games against the Colts.
  • ·         Jones-Drew (62) needs one rush TD to surpass Fred Taylor (62) for most career rush TDs in franchise history.
  • ·         The Chargers face the Falcons on Sunday. Norv Turner and Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Nolan coached together in San Francisco in 2006 when Turner was the offensive coordinator and Nolan the head coach.
  • ·         Michael Vick has attempted 66 passes against the Cardinals, yet hasn’t connected for a touchdown. He has four interceptions and he’s been sacked 13 times, including five a year ago.
    • ·         The Steelers faced Carson Palmer for eight years while he was with the Cincinnati Bengals, and they know what he brings to the table.Pittsburgh beat Palmer’s Bengals eight times in 12 games.(Palmer didn’t play as a rookie in 2003 and missed the 2008 Pittsburgh games with an elbow injury).
    • ·         Denver is 16-3 at home in the month of September since the 2002 season.
    • ·         Gary Kubiak spent 9 seasons (1983-91) as player with Broncos & 11 years (1995-05) as an assistant coach with Denver.
    • ·         Baltimore has won its last 13 games following a loss!
    • ·         Additionally, in the Ravens’ 13-straight wins that immediately follow a loss, Joe Flacco has completed 250 of 395 passes (63.3%) for 3,126 yards, 19 touchdowns and just 3 INTs.
